f-ESWT is a non-invasive, evidence-based therapy for veterinary patients that uses focused acoustic energy (ultrasound) to trigger a healing response in soft tissue. We use specific treatment protocols based on your pet’s condition, delivering focused acoustic shock waves into damaged tissue to accelerate tissue healing, relieve pain and improve mobility. Treatments are fast, painless, and non-invasive.
What are the benefits of acoustic shock wave therapy?
Acoustic shock wave therapy is commonly used for the following three reasons:
- To reduce pain
- To accelerate healing
- To improve mobility Shock wave treatment may be recommended as part of an overall plan of care for your pet that may include exercise, and medication.
What conditions can acoustic shock wave therapy be used to treat?
Acoustic shock wave therapy is very versatile and can be used to treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions including:
- Chronic pain
- Trigger points
- Osteoarthritis
- Acute and chronic tendinopathies
- Inflammation
- Non-healing wounds
- Bone non-unions (fractures that don’t fully heal)
- And more.
What are treatments like?
Our team will determine if your pet is a good candidate for shock wave therapy and then will develop a custom plan of care based on your pet’s individual condition. We will share the recommended number of treatments and frequency of treatments. Often conditions treated with acoustic shock wave therapy require three to five sessions for optimal results. Visits are typically scheduled one to two weeks apart.
Preparing for treatment:
Treatment is typically delivered with your pet lying in a comfy spot on the floor.
- During treatment A member of our team will administer shock wave treatment through a handheld device, the CS-Pro VET. During treatment, you’ll hear a gentle clicking sound. Treatment is not loud or scary to your pet; it’s simply the sound that therapeutic acoustic shock waves make as they are generated by the device. Pets rarely require sedation and treatments last just 5 to 10 minutes.
- After treatment Pets often experience an increase in mobility and pain relief immediately after treatment. This side-effect-free treatment is often combined with other therapies or medications based on your veterinarian’s recommendations. Your pet may show improvements after a single treatment, but for your pet to get the full benefits of acoustic shock wave therapy, we recommend that you bring your pet back for the complete set of treatments, as recommended by your veterinarian.
